The First Humpback Whales of the Season Have Arrived!

Yes! And we couldn’t be more excited! We had our first whale sighting of the season on 3 June (yesterday!). It’s always a special moment for our team when we spot those first humpbacks making their way along the coast.

What makes this time of year so special?

Every year, more than 40,000 humpback whales migrate along Australia’s east coast — and that number keeps growing year after year.

It means that right now, the ocean is coming alive with one of nature’s greatest migrations, and we get front-row seats from the coastline of the Great Sandy National Park.

Is this just a whale watching cruise?

Not quite.. and that’s what makes it different!

Instead of a standard boat-based whale watching trip, this is a full-day eco adventure into the remote Great Sandy National Park. So what does that actually look like?

How is this different from other whale watching tours?

Simple… we slow everything down 🙂

Most whale watching experiences involve large boats, engines running, and lots of people all trying to get the same view at once.

With us, it’s the complete opposite.

We move quietly through nature in small groups, giving you space to truly feel immersed in the environment. It’s not just about seeing whales — it’s about experiencing the coastline, the stillness, and the wildlife moving in its own natural rhythm.

You’ll experience this first-hand on our Whale Watching Tour.

But… is kayaking with humpback whales really safe?

Yes! Whale watching by kayak is safe and absolutely extraordinary when guided by experienced professionals.

Safety is always our highest priority. Our tours are operated by experienced, qualified guides who carefully assess conditions on the day and only operate when it is safe to do so.

We follow strict wildlife interaction guidelines designed to protect both our guests and the whales. Our guides continuously monitor whale behaviour and position groups appropriately to ensure every encounter is safe, respectful, and low-impact.

So what is this experience really about?

It’s more than just a short whale watching cruise. It’s a full Great Sandy National Park adventure experience. A day spent travelling remote beaches, paddling calm waters, and witnessing one of the world’s most incredible marine migrations in the most natural way possible.

And with the first whales already here… the season has officially begun.

If you’d love to experience it for yourself, you can join our Whale Watching & Ocean Kayaking Tour and meet these gentle giants in a calm, respectful and truly unforgettable way.
