Rays, Bottlenose dolphins, many different bird species, Humpback whales (over 35000 to pass this season) and soldier crabs in their thousands are also all frequent here.

Pelican Bay is another ideal flat water location to learn to stand up paddle. This pristine location is protected from the open ocean by Fraser Island and Inskip Point behind Rainbow Beach and is an important mangrove habitat for many local wildlife. A paddle along this very rich plant diversity will often discover turtles resting or feeding, rays, mud crabs, fish, sea birds, dugongs and sometimes the endangered Australian Humpback Dolphin.
