Double Island Point - Unique Whale Watching Location

Noosa North Shore’s Double Island Point is exclusively accessible by 4X4 vehicles and our tours take you generally around the low tide, it’s often away from the crowds and into the heart of the Great Sandy National Park where many of the local and migrating wildlife can be experienced.

Some of the locations incredible natural features include the crystal clear waters of Honeymoon Bay, towering ancient coloured sands and scenic K’Gari (Fraser Island) views.

Humpback Whales often pass by with an estimate 40,000 migrating north this year and some rest with their calf in the tranquil waters of Double Island Point.

Ocean Kayaking + Whale Watching

Experience Whale Watching the Eco way on our fully guided sea kayak tours taking in the pristine natural environment of the Great Sandy National Park.

We are committed to promoting a relaxed and minimal impact approach to viewing marine mammals on our tours, particularly within the protected confines of the marine park. Our ‘paddles up’ procedure ensures that interactions are conducted on the terms of the marine mammals, fostering both the safest and most rewarding experiences. This respectful approach allows us to observe these magnificent creatures without disrupting their natural behaviors, aligning with our dedication to conservation and responsible wildlife tourism.

During whale migration (June – November) we encounter whales most days with opportunity for spotting starting from the thrilling beach drive as many migrate close to shore. On our guided ocean kayaking experience we can encounter whales some days very close, other days a bit further away as it is always on the marine mammals terms. The unpredictable nature of wildlife, especially whales, means each tour is a unique experience shaped by natural elements beyond our control. We encourage guests to come with an open mind, ready to explore the vast beauty of the National Park. Turtles, pods of dolphins and rays are also frequently encountered on this tour.

Beach 4X4 Kayaking Adventure

Whale watching begins right from the drive along the beach, where these magnificent creatures are often seen gliding close to the shoreline on migration.

Other wildlife we spot along this thrilling drive are a variety of spectacular local and migrating bird species including the Brahminy and Whistling Kite, Eastern Osprey and enormous White Belly Sea Eagle often perched or soaring above the towering coloured sand cliffs.

For this whale watching ocean kayak tour no experience is required, however a moderate level of fitness is needed. Some days we may need to paddle further to encounter whales depending on the day. This tour is suitable for all levels from 6 years up. Ideally, its best to have a child in front with adult in the back of our double ocean kayaks. We can allow younger children with our private whale kayak tour with full flexibility and a personalised guided adventure.

Epic Kayak Tour Reviews

Great fun kayaking. Saw lots of Whales and Dolphins. Came back again to surf. A very pretty place to visit. Thanks Vince and team!
Had the most beautiful day with Epic! The drive along the beach is stunning and we spotted so many whales! Vince and Cam were both extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The surf was magical, beautiful soft and small waves :)))
Awesome day! Super nice guides and we saw dolphins, sting rays, turtles and whales:-))
Such a great experience!! Really enjoyed the scenic drive along the beach whilst learning more about the area & wildlife from our guide Tyron. Obviously the highlight was getting up close to two pods of humpback whales and plenty of dolphins. Thankful for the amazing encounter and clear instructions that made the entire group feel very safe at all times out on the water. Would highly recommend putting this on your list!
What a day! From the amazing 4WD along the stunning beach, to the whales, dolphins and soldier crabs, we had a ball the whole afternoon! Vince had incredible knowledge of the landscape and wildlife. Thanks Vince!
A group of 27 of us from work went out for a day with Epic Ocean Adventures and had the absolute time of our lives! So many people were surprised to enjoy the drive up the beach as much as they enjoyed the activities they chose (SUP, surf, kayak). We happened upon the most brilliant weather, and got to see several whales – both of which helped make it incredible, but I think we would have had a great day, regardless. The team were knowledgeable, confident, and kind. Exactly what you want when going out for an adventure.I would recommend to anyone!
Vince and his Epic Adventure was the most spectacular day out. Vince was exceptionally knowledgeable regarding the area and the environment. His genuine respect for the wildlife and their habitats is wonderful to witness. The real bonus for us was the number of whales and dolphins that were swimming along with our kayaks.A truly magical day
Je recommande a 100%! Staff super gentils, on nous a donné plusieurs explications de ce qui nous entouré (animaux, fone et flores). Cours de surf excellent, avec un encadrant tres patient. J’ai adorée
A once in a lifetime trip, never thought we would get so up & close to whales. Vince was a fantastic host & a wealth of knowledge. Gordon & Nicki. Lake Hayes New Zealand
We thoroughly enjoyed our nearly 8 hour tour with Vince! He’s a fantastic guide with a great deal of experience and knowledge around the Noosa ecosystems and surroundings. He accompanied our little one in the Kayak and looked after her really well! Thanks Vince!Epic have put together a fantastic package that involves a 50km 4×4 bus tour from Noosa through to the most pristine waters at Double Island point from where we began our kayak adventure. Throughout our 4×4 drive on the beach “National highway”, we saw nearly 50+ humpback whales. While kayaking we got lucky and experienced close encounters with these giant mammals along with their calves. It was surreal! Overall we must’ve seen close to 100 whales (few very close while kayaking while others from the bus) throughout the tour! All in all, we had an “Epic” adventure and would highly recommend it to anyone still on the fence about it.
Experience of a lifetime! A great adventure, well paced for all abilities. Tour guide was fabulous, friendly and very knowledgeable, and wildlife was in abundance. Highly recommend!
Thanks Erik for the amazing adventure! Had been a dream
We can not rate this tour highly enough!!Suzie was fantastic throughout our booking and planning.Kevin, our tour guide, was awesome!Welcoming, informative and accommodating.Myself, my partner & our daughter (3) had the BEST time. Kayaking with turtles below us in the shallows and 3 whales making a splash a short distance out.Thank you so much for this amazing experience,Mel, Tom and Isabella from South Australia ❤️
My nephew and I went out on the kayak tour with Vince (amazing guide), within a relatively short paddle we already had whales and dolphins swimming under and around us. Special life experience that I would highly recommend! The drive itself is amazing too, heaps to learn and admire along the way, very worth it.Well organised and ethical company that seems to value their customers experience – go with these guys!
